It was only last fall when Bethesda Softworks disappointed fans by saying DLC (downloadable content) for Fallout 3 was not coming to the PlayStation 3. Today, however, they announced a change. In late June, PS3 players will start to catch up with those playing Fallout 3 on PCs and Xbox 360s. The first Fallout 3 content pack, "Operation: Anchorage, first released in January, will be downloadable from the PlayStation Network in late June. The two other DLC packs which were previously relased for PC and Xbox 360 will be released on PlayStation Network later, with about a month or six weeks between releases. This puts the release of PS3 "Broken Steel" somewhere between the end of September and end of October, 2009. Mixed into the Bethesda announcement with this release schedule is a comment that a software update to Fallout 3 for PS3 to allow players to install and use the DLC patches will be released at an unknown future date. Also announced were two new DLC packs coming this year to Fallout 3 for all platforms. The first, "Point Lookout," will add a large swamp to the game map containing new quests, etc. The second, "Mothership Zeta," will get your character abducted by aliens and force him to escape. Seeming to emphasize the technical difficulty of adding DLC to the PlayStation 3, the Bethesda announcement also said gamers can buy the DLC in boxes at stores later this year - but only for PC and Xbox 360, not PS3. |
